The Wool Award is an annual event which awards and rewards the Australian woolgrowers’ commitment to quality.
This April, Ermenegildo Zegna honours the 50th Anniversary of this occurrence that has been taking place since 1963. The two-day celebration in Sydney begins with guided visits to some of the top Australian wool farms and culminates in a multi-sensorial event, a fashion show and a gala held at the historic Royal Hall of Industries in Sydney’s Moore Park district.
The Australian new south wales landscape is uniquely suited to sheep, with a relatively mild climate extending over vast areas of natural grassland, here featured in Mattias Klum's pictures.
Wool production is in fact the country’s largest and most important form of agricultural land use and Fine and Super-fine Australian merino wool are fundamental materials within Ermenegildo Zegna’s most prestigious fabrics. Their importance is celebrated through Zegna’s efforts to evolve the fineness and excellence of the multi-faceted fiber.
Everything starts with an immersive exhibition that recreates the form and substance that surround Zegna’s ongoing quest for the finest raw materials, craftsmanship, style, art and environmental sustainability: a multimedia experience in which visitors are treated to a visual voyage through the Zegna Group and Zegna Wool Mill.
A very special fashion show dedicated to the Fall/Winter 2013 collection will introduce the ceremony for the winner of the 50th Edition Ermenegildo Zegna Wool Awards for Superfine wool and the winner of the prestigious Vellus Aureum Trophy.
The celebration will draw to a cocktail party featuring a live performance by Temper Trap and a post dinner party as perfect conclusion of this two special days in Sydney.
THE WOOL EXPERIENCE
Visitors first pass through a 10 meter corridor displaying of the noblest natural and semi-worked fibers, before they are transformed into fabrics by Zegna. The finished fabrics that gracefully float from the ceiling in a stunning series of sculpturesque waves create an aerial art installation. Each made of Superfine Australian wool, they give testimony to the never ending quest for innovation and quality.
